DTP Leaving DefJam? No.

According to posts at SOHH and MissInfo.tv, Ludacris’ label, Disturbing Tha Peace has been told by Def Jam CEO LA Reid to “hit the road”. According to the reports, as part of the shakeup, Bobby Valentino, Shareefa, and Mr. Ordinaray have all been dropped from their contracts with DTP.

I’d have to say that this seems more like rumor than anything else, and has not been confirmed. Although, in an update to their post, SOHH says that the DTP departure is not supposed to happen until next week. So I guess this comes as news to the guys at DTP as well.

Not sure if this will qualify DTP as an independent label or not, since I’m sure Luda will find another major label home for his label. In my opinion, his roster is too full of “loss leaders” (like Chingy) for DTP to function profitably as a true independent.

I’ll update this post if and when the rumors are confirmed. Maybe my boys over at Coffee Shop can nail down an interview with Luda?

Update (3-4-08): AllHipHop reports that DTP has re-signed a long term distribution deal with Island Def Jam Music Group. Is seems to me this whole thing may have been a very effective (and shrewd) renegotiation ploy on the part of Mr. Bridges and Mr. Zulu…
